The brewing and bottling industry of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was of such great importance to the economy that the city was sometimes referred to as the "Munich of the New World." This book focuses on all aspects of this industry from approximately 1850 - 1950.
Presented herein is a fairly complete history of Lancaster's four major brewing companies; a review of the local bottlers; and examples of all known varieties of beer, mineral water and soda bottles. Included is a detailed description of methods of identification for all the varied examples of bottles sold by the 105 different enterprising individuals.
For the novice, as well as for the advanced collector, the book includes over 600 color plates of all presently known types, colors and varieties of bottles. Also included is a rarity scale and a numbering system for easy identification. In addition, the book lists a brief history of the brewing industry and previously unreported unknown facts.
